Wanda Gail Steed, 80, passed away on December 8, 2022 at Silver Oaks Nursing Home in Camden. She was born October 26, 1942 in Camden, AR, the eldest child of Dorman and Beulah Meeks of Camden. She was a member of Cullendale First Baptist Church in Camden. She served as pianist for Camden First Baptist Church for 10 years and also served as handbell director and as organist for Calvary Baptist Church.

Wanda graduated from Camden High School in 1960 and graduated from Henderson State Teachers College in 1964. She taught music in the Camden Public Schools, Benton Public Schools, and Harmony Grove Public Schools between 1964 - 1980. She also taught private piano lessons for many years. Wanda worked for General Dynamics for a short time and finished her working career at the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in East Camden. She was a member of PEO, DAR, and Music Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorman and Beulah Meeks, daughter Tammi Leigh Ray, son Jon David Tutt, brothers Col. Gary Meeks, and Wayne Meeks.

She is survived by her husband Gene Steed, daughters Gigi Bird (David) of Hot Springs, Gena Merkel (Jimmy) of Columbus, OH, sons Matt Steed (Katherine) of Rogers, and Josh Steed (Aubrey) of Camden. Grandchildren Jake Bird (Sarah), Brad Bird (Leea), Krystian Steed, Carmen Merkel, Guy Merkel, Brody Merkel, Glyn Steed, Araceli Steed, Taylor Primm, Tyler Walters, and Dakota Briscoe.

Wanda was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved God, family, and friends. She loved music and loved teaching it to others. She had many piano students through the years. In fact, she started teaching piano when she was a senior in high school. One of her favorite things in the world was spending time with family, especially her kids and grandkids. She also loved spending time with her friends and classmates and enjoyed organizing many class reunions over the past 60 years.

Funeral service will be 11:00AM Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in Macedonia Cemetery at Blevins. Visitation will be 9-10:30AM at the church before the service.
