Shirley Ann Blann Dewar passed away on April 24, 2023, at Silver Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Camden, Arkansas, at the age of 87. Shirley was born in Hampton, Arkansas on November 27, 1935 to John Henry and Mollie Porter Blann and is the last remaining and longest-living member of that family. She was predeceased by her brothers, Leroy, Ralph, James (Buddy), and Roy Dean and sisters, Mildred, Imogene, Christine, Alma Deloyce (Jack), and Reida.
After graduation from Hampton High School, Shirley moved to Camden and became employed with the Malco Theater, Inc. It was there that she met Richard (Dicky) Dewar; they were married on November 12, 1955 and were married for 56 years until Dicky's death in August, 2010.
Shirley was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church for 60+ years, and she actively participated in the church, serving as Church Council Chair for three years, a member of the Finance Committee, and a member of the United Methodist Women, serving as their Treasurer for a number of years. She enjoyed singing in the Chancel Choir as long as her health allowed. Her most enjoyable years were those after Dicky retired, and they enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson a few times a year, especially during the Christmas season.
Shirley is survived by her children: Richard B. Dewar of Locust Bayou; Robin Darden (Dennis) of El Dorado; and Karen Howard of Bentonville, AR. She has five grandchildren: Tyler Dewar; Jayme Darden Stegall (Jerry), Justin Darden (Crystal), Holly Howard, and Lindsay Bennett (Spencer). Great-grandchildren are Cole Hagler, Rylee Darden, Ethan Darden, Collin Stegall, Gracyn Darden, Hensley Beaux Darden, and Millie Bennett. Besides her husband, Dicky, Shirley is predeceased by her granddaughter, Hayley Howard, and her son-in-law Patrick Howard.
Services will be held in the chapel of Proctor Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 2:00PM. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Pastor Terrie Bunnell and Danny Rivers will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made Ouachita Enrichment Center, 1320 Maul Road, Camden, AR 71701.
The family would like to thank the staff at Silver Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the exceptional level of care they provided to their mother and grandmother. The family is also grateful to Devonna Campbell, Carolyn Crews, and Wayne Campbell for their devotion , service, and love they gave to Ms. Shirley.
Pallbearers will be Justin Darden, Jerry Stegall, Cole Hagler, Ethan Darden, Collin Stegall, and Robert Sellers.
