Locust Bayou
Roy Allen Burton, 78, of Locust Bayou (Camden), AR, passed away Monday, May 1, 2023, at the VA Hospital in Little Rock, AR after a short one-month battle with brain cancer.
Roy attended Harmony Grove School and then joined the Army where he served for a short while before receiving an Honorable Discharge. He lived in Locust Bayou the majority of his life and was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. He loved to fish, hunt, and do mechanic work on anything he could tear apart and put back together. He loved the outdoors. Roy had a sense of humor and a playfulness about him that set him apart from anyone else. But most importantly, he was a wonderful Papaw who made countless memories. He loved and spoiled his Granddaughter until no end.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Corley and Nannie Burton; his beloved wife of 30 years, Glenda Burton; his brothers, Eddie Burton, Johnny Burton, and Richard Burton and his sisters Wanda Cross, Oleta McLendon, and Dorothy Cogdell.
He leaves behind to cherish all of their wonderful memories, his "Spark Plug" (Granddaughter) Julie Smith (Brent) of Magnolia, AR; Great-Granddaughter Hartleigh Smith, of Magnolia, AR; Stepdaughter Linda Sue Johnson of Stephens, AR; Stepson Prentiss Lambert (Whitney and Dawson) of Camden, AR; a girlfriend, Donie Williams (along with her children and grandchildren) of Camden, AR, along with numerous friends, relatives, and hunting buddies.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 11:00 am. Services will be held 12:00 p.m. May 4, 2023 at Proctor Funeral Home with Sandy Carter officiating followed by interment at Furr Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Jennings, Agee Johnson, Prentiss Lambert, Brent Smith, Kennith Burton and Justin Williams.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to his nurses at the VA Hospital in Little Rock. You will forever be remembered for your kindness & love.
