Richard Steelman Memories of Life There has never been a bigger fan of Westerns than our dad, Richard Dean Steelman. He rode into the eternal sunset August 9, 2024. Richard is survived by his son, Jeffrey Dean Steelman and his wife Sherri; son, Mitchell Trey Steelman and his wife Bethannie; son, Richard Brooks Steelman and his wife Kelly; and his "sweetie," Shirley Gorman. He loved his host of grandchildren and great grandchildren: grandchildren Gary and Stoni Fortney and great-grandson, Jackson; grandson, Boulder Steelman; granddaughter, Betty Blue Steelman; granddaughter Nikki Cross and great grandchildren, Alexia Johnson and Kyler Smith; granddaughter, Cyan Frey; grandchildren of heart, Mark and Molly Cupp; great-grandchildren of heart, Taylor Cupp, Myka Cupp, Trista Cupp, and Brielle Cupp. Richard also leaves behind his sister, Judy Ann Martin and her husband Charlie; sister, Dixie Lee Pennington and her husband Wayne; sister-in-law, Jill Steelman, surviving wife of Sam Steelman; sister-in-law, Dot Steelman, surviving wife of Eugene Steelman; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Hollie Mae Steelman; his father, Leamon Dean Steelman; his brothers, Franklin Eugene Steelman and Gary Samuel Steelman; his sisters, Elsie Mae Steelman and Ruby Lee Steelman; and his son, Ryan Franklin Steelman.

Mr. Steelman was born on November 18th, 1943, in Camden, AR to Dean and Hollie Steelman. He was one of 7 children. His father ran Steelman's Grocery in Camden where Richard often helped his father with the business. Richard proudly served his country in the Army National Guard where he earned medals for his marksmanship prior to his Honorable Discharge. He retired from the International Paper Company of Camden after many years of working. After retirement, he decided the quiet life was not for him and went back to work for Southern Arkansas University Tech in East Camden in the Maintenance department where he enjoyed many years and made many very special friends. Richard was an avid cyclist and peddled many miles throughout his life. He loved to fish and made many memories with his children hunting rabbits, deer, and squirrels on goat island. As his children enjoyed playing baseball, he would coach the team or cheer loudly from the stands when he wasn't coaching. He loved to laugh and was a very sneaky trickster. You knew how much he liked you based upon how much he picked on you. He was a strong Christian and ensured his children grew up knowing Jesus. His children will tell you they always felt supported, loved, and secure because of the deep devotion shown to them by their father. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery Friday, August 16th at 3:00pm. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The online registry may be signed at Proctorfuneralhome.com
