Noris Kathleen
Douthit Lampkin
Jul 15, 1940 — Aug 17, 2023
Camden
Noris Kathleen Douthit Lampkin, 83, of Chidester died August 17, 2023, at Ouachita County Medical Center.
She was born July 15, 1940, in Camden, to the late James Leroy and Thelma Etolia Cassidy Douthit. She was a 1958 graduate of Fairview High School, and later, Foster's Business School. On June 30, 1961, she married Don Lampkin, beginning a 62-year adventure that included four children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; multiple trips to follow the Arkansas Razorbacks; a six-week RV adventure to Alaska with Don's sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Bob Rowe; many years of camping and fishing excursions to Dierks Lake, where they made lasting friendships at Jefferson Ridge; and a country life filled with big gardens, untold numbers of dogs and, in later years, their beloved cat, Midnight.
Noris loved all holidays, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, when the family, which grew steadily, gathered. Lampkin Christmas Eves were legendary, with church service, supper and gifts scattered all over.
She was the best cook around, and anyone who dropped in at the Lampkin home was invited to join the family for a meal.
After being a stay-at-home mother until her kids were well into their school years, Noris became a rural mail carrier at the Chidester Post Office, where she enjoyed her co-workers and visiting with those along her route.
Noris was a long-time member of Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, where for several years, she and her family kept the doors open. On many Sundays in the 1970s, the minister preached to a congregation consisting of Noris and her family, including Don's mother, Oleta Lampkin.
Noris was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Tolie Douthit; her in-laws, Edward and Oleta Lampkin; and four unborn great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Don Lampkin; her children, Donna Stephens and her husband, Ken of Conway; Jerry Lampkin and his wife, Jackie; Sherry Young and her husband, Mark; and Becky Harris and her husband, Marc, all of Chidester; her grandchildren, Jared Lampkin and his wife, Morgan of Chidester; Tyler Young and his fiancée, Karen Cortes, of Cedar Park, Texas; Bradley Harris and his wife, Kaina, of Chidester; Wesley Young and his wife, Torie, of Valdez, Alaska; Joshua Lampkin and his wife, Brooke, of Chidester; Peyton Skidmore and her husband, Tanner, of Camden; and Brandon Harris of Chidester; her great-grandchildren, Brylee Lampkin, Ridge Lampkin, Gunner Lampkin and Kasen Skidmore; her brother, David Douthit and his wife, Paula, of Camden; her sister-in-law, Jean Rowe, of Scottsboro, Ala.; her nephews, Derek Douthit and his wife, Christy, of Camden; and Mike Rowe and his wife, Leann, of Tierra Verde, Fla.; and her nieces, Debbie Palmer and her husband, Jim; and Lisa Reeves and her husband, Kevin, all of Scottsboro, as well as innumerable friends and extended family. She was rich in all the ways that matter.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 19, from 6-8 p.m. at Proctor Funeral Home in Camden, with funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 20, at Proctor's. Burial will follow at Bell Chapel Cemetery near Chidester.
