Louise Chambers Bray was born January 21, 1927, to E.E. and Vivian Chambers in Glendale, Arkansas and left this world on February 1, 2024.  Raised on a Farm with her two sisters and two brothers, she attended and graduated from Glendale High School.  Of note and a tribute to her hearty stock, she was seven years old before electrification came to rural Arkansas.  Following High School, she attended Henderson State University where she graduated with BS degree in Education.

Her first teaching job was in Lewisville, Arkansas.  It was there she met and would later marry her husband Charles for the next 46 years. They were married in Pine Bluff, Arkansas November 27, 1949.  They then moved to Camden, Arkansas where she would remain for the next 61 years.  She first taught at Harmony Grove Schools before starting her family, and her private kindergarten.  Over the next 30 years she would teach hundreds of children while developing lifelong friends.  To this day, she still received cards and visits from past students.

Lou, as she was known to her friends, was an active member of many of Camden's social organizations.  Most important was her church, First United Methodist.  She was a member in Junior Auxiliary, Bridge Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Daughters of the American Revolution, Dance Club and UMW Church Circles.

With the ramping up of the Vietnam War and East Camden Munition plants in the 1960's, many families were moving in from California to Camden, providing a Real Estate opportunity for husband Charles.  There were many last-minute calls by him to ask if he could bring someone home for dinner, which would become how many a family was introduced to Camden and Southern cooking through the table of Lou Bray.  Many would later insist on bringing future residents to their home instead of taking them out to a restaurant.

Lou would remain in Camden several years after the passing of her husband Charles and then move to Hot Springs, Arkansas to be close to her sister Doris.  When Doris moved to Little Rock, Lou would follow soon to be closer to a son and his wife and family.  There she lived by herself until her passing.  Her main caregiver at this time was her daughter in law Penny.  With Penny's care, Lou's final stop on this planet was enriched beyond words with her help and the family is eternally grateful.

Never one to shy away from having a good time, we know now she is back on the dance floor with her husband, family, and friends that she has been missing for so long.  For those of us left behind, we celebrate and embrace a life well lived with her.  She is survived by her sister Pat Racop, Sons Norton (Linda) and Barry (Penny).  Grandchildren Justin (Kirby), Jordan, Shawna, Amber (Matt), Amanda, and Luke. Great Grandchildren, Danielle, Sydney, Nora, Stella, Madison, Kaelon, Aubrey, Bella, and Dalton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday, February 9, with a viewing beginning at 10:00am followed by the service at 11:00am at the First United Methodist Church in Camden, Arkansas.  Memorials may be made to the church or your favorite charity.
