Obituary

Leonard R. Massey, a devoted husband, father, an artist and community servant, passed away peacefully on the evening of August 22nd, 2025. His life was marked by unwavering faith, a deep love for family, a love of creating art and a tireless commitment to nurturing both people and the land.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Francis Massey; his brothers Charles and J.D. Hollis, Edward Shipp, and Roy Ray Massey; his sisters Irene McAnulty, Mary Evelyn Parsons, Marie Cornelius, and Rose Adams; and his beloved son, Steven Massey.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Charlotte Earline Massey; his daughter, Sherry Young, husband William; his son, Scott Massey, wife Amy; his sister, Nell Mays; his brother, Henry Massey; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of love, faith, and service.

Leonard's hands were rarely idle. He loved to create wood carvings and similar artistic expressions.  As a Master Gardener, he found joy and purpose in tending to his plants and cultivating his garden—a reflection of his nurturing spirit. His passion for genealogy led him to uncover and preserve the rich tapestry of his family's history, ensuring that future generations would know the roots from which they came.

A pillar of his community, Leonard served as a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America and as a 4-H Leader, instilling values of leadership and integrity in countless young lives. His dedication extended to the Ouachita County Fair Board, where he worked to celebrate and support local agriculture and youth development.

Leonard spent many years working at International Paper Company, where he was known for his diligence and reliability. Toward the end of his life, he found spiritual fulfillment and fellowship at Westside Methodist Church, where he faithfully attended and lived out his belief in God and Jesus Christ.

Above all, Leonard Massey was a man of faith, family, and service. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the gardens he grew, and the love he gave so freely.  The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Arbor Hospice in Camden, Arkansas including all the nurses, CNAs, and Dr. Braden, which provided care for his comfort.

Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Westside Methodist Church. Leonard's funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. at the church followed by interment at Round Oak Cemetery near Troy.
