Lena Cockrum Laney of Camden, AR, passed away on September 16, 2023, at home with her loving family. Lena C. Laney was born October 28, 1932, in Winslow, AR to the late Eddie and Joan Wiedurg Cockrum. The family soon moved to Clarksville, AR where the children were raised. Lena is preceded in death by two brothers, Owen and Corbie Cochran and by two sisters, Thelma Shock and infant Jo Eddie Cockrum. She is survived by one sister, Pam Cockrum of Clarksville, AR. She is also survived by many precious nieces and nephews.
Lena graduated from The University of the Ozarks and moved to Camden. She was employed by the founder of the Grapette Company, Tyndle Fooks. In Camden, she met and married her beloved husband of 40 years, Felix Laney (deceased 1995). With Felix, they had three sons, Art Laney (deceased), Alan (Debbie) Laney, and Sid (Debra) Laney. Grandchildren came next, Lauren (Kevin) Williams, Titus (Leigh) Laney, Marshall (Meg) Laney, and Macy (Slade) Farris.
Her special blessings were her great grandchildren, Sam and Luke Williams, Emma and Gracie Laney, Felix Laney, and Mila and Remi Farris.
Lena enjoyed many activities including working with her church, The First Baptist Church of Camden, where she was a lifelong member. She was active in the Camden Junior Auxiliary, and volunteered many years with the Ouachita Hospital Auxiliary. Among her many activities and hobbies, golf was her favorite. She played many state tournaments and made lifelong friends. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family members, and she seldom declined a road trip to see the grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Proctor's Chapel at 2:00PM with visitation prior to the service at 12:30 - 2:00PM. Officiating the service will be Rev. Gentry Hill and Rev. Stephen Watson. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Camden, AR.
Pallbearers will be Fill Neeley, Clay Neeley, Owen Cochran, Titus Laney, Marshall Laney, Kevin Williams, and Slade Farris. Honorary Pallbearers will be Benton Rollins, Laney Rollins, Gene Rollins, James Lee Silliman and Ben Browning III.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The First Baptist Church of Camden or the Ouachita Medical Center Auxiliary.
