Johnny Scott Lowery was born May 6, 1941, in Stephens, AR to John Purdon and Annie May Smith Lowery. Preceding John in death was his only brother, Preston and five of his six sisters, Gladys Spain, Barbara Parks, Jane Spruill, LaVerne Bowden and Janet Carter. John was a member of Oasis Church and was a volunteer with OCMC's  Auxiliary.

As a young man John was the announcer for the Smackover band and ran the projector at the Joy Theatre. He also began the hobby that continued throughout his life, painting. John began by doing paint by number and making frames for them by cutting up yard sticks. He continued to enjoy painting throughout his life, first in oils and then acrylics. He gave many of his paintings as gifts to friends and family. John's love of painting extended to painting rooms, houses, and baseboards. It was laughingly said that John would paint anything that would stand still long enough.

John served in the U.S. Army Reserve after training at Fort Polk, LA. He attended Draughn Business School in Shreveport, LA and after finishing this training he went to work at Smackover State Bank. This was the beginning of a banking career that began in Smackover and ended in Camden with a second retirement from Generations Bank after nearly forty years.

In February of 1964 John met Donna Thomas in Fulmer's Grocery Store in Smackover and they began dating in March. Donna always mentioned that every time John came, he brought her a present. In April, he brought her an engagement ring and after a year long engagement they were married on June 26, 1965.

John is survived by his wife of sixty years, Donna Thomas Lowery; his son John Scott Lowery Jr. (Laurie) of Joplin, MO and his daughter Johnna Lester (Mark) of Camden, AR. The lights and joy of his life were his grandchildren, Lucas and Lucy Lowery of Joplin, MO, Kirbee Lester Young (Taylor) of Baton Rouge, LA and Johnathan Steven Lester (Tori) of McKinney, TX along with God's gift to him after the beginning of his dementia, Caroline Elizabeth and Mary Kate Young of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by one sister, Judy Corley (David) of Smackover, AR and multiple nephews and nieces.

John's family is thankful for all the help they received, especially the fireman of Station 2 who answered the calls for help in the middle of the night to pick him up, the nurses from Arbor Hospice along with Dr. Braden, and his special caregivers Mary Gilmore, Brennan Holland, Queen Williams and Cheryl Bryant.

Visitation will be 12:00-2:00 Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Oasis Church. Services will be at 2:00 followed by interment at Smackover Cemetery.
