Janet Ann Robins Cook drew her last breath on April 2, 2024, in Gainesville, Virginia, where she was surrounded by her loving family. Though Alzheimer's Disease may have taken its toll on her health, it did not conquer her. Ann was graceful to the end and never lost her sweet disposition, her heartwarming smile, or the ability to touch our hearts with the twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes.

Born in Hope, Arkansas in 1935 to Dr. Rowland R. Robins and Mae Thompson Robins, Ann was the second of their four children. Beginning in 1937, the family made their home in Camden, Arkansas, where Dr. Robins practiced medicine for many years. Ann used to recount how well regarded her father was in the community as he often made house calls to ill patients. Ann lovingly stayed awake many nights to wait for her beloved father to return home from such calls.

Ann met her future husband, Billy G. Cook, also of Camden, and graduated from Camden High School in 1953. They both attended what was then known as Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where Ann majored in journalism. She and Billy married in September 1954 and continued working toward their degrees. They welcomed their first child in 1956. Billy accepted a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1957. It was then that the young family left their families, friends, and familiar surroundings to embark on a life-long adventure and career in the Army. Ann and Billy welcomed three more children before their family was complete.

In addition to being a devoted wife and loving mother, Ann was an asset to her husband's career. She gracefully handled the many challenges of motherhood and military life, including new military assignments and moves almost every year for over 20 years. She was instrumental in guiding her family through the military moves that took them to Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Virginia, and two three-year assignments to Germany, where they lived in Wildflecken, Bad Kreuznach, and Heidelberg. When her husband was deployed to Vietnam with the First Cavalry from 1965 to 1966, Ann returned to Camden with her four young daughters and kept the home fires burning, all while praying for Billy's safety and counting the days until his return.

Though primarily a full-time homemaker, Ann worked for the Department of Defense as a civil servant during the family's second assignment to Germany and in the insurance field for United Services Automobile Association (USAA) in Virginia, from which she later retired.

Ann was everything good in a person – compassionate, loving, selfless, forgiving, and gracious to all who met and loved her. The trip from meeting her to loving her was a short one. She was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and sister who brought joy to her family's lives, took pride in their accomplishments, and encouraged them in their endeavors.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 64 years, Colonel (U.S. Army, Ret.) Billy G. Cook; her parents, Dr. Rowland R. Robins and Mae Thompson Robins; her stepmother, Ruth Dillingham Robins; sister Linda Luttrell, and brother Rowland "Bob" Robins. Ann is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law: Melanie (Joe) Turpin of Bristow, Virginia; Patricia (Jay) Behnke of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Robin (Dwayne) Pfeiffer of Haymarket, Virginia; and Barbara (Lucas) Arbutina of Raleigh, North Carolina. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Chelsea (Tina) Pfeiffer, Laura Turpin, Eric Pfeiffer, and Paige Arbutina (Mohammad Abdelmageed); Ann's sister Diana Germann; her sister-in-law Holly Robins; brother-in-law Charles Cook, niece Debbi Chronister, nephews, nieces, other relatives, and cherished friends across the United States and in Europe.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the many caregivers and staff at Harper's Station Senior Living and Heritage Village Assisted Living and Memory Care in Gainesville, Virginia for their love, care, and compassion for Ann. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home (www.fmfh.com), with calling hours for friends scheduled for Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 2:30-4:00 p.m. at 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22032. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date based on a schedule to be determined by the Cemetery's administrative office. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who so desire make donations to their favorite charity in Ann's memory.
