James Richard (Dick) Maxwell, 81, of Barling, AR formerly of Camden, AR went to be with his Savior Monday, November 13,2023 at St. Vincent's Infirmary  in Little Rock surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Camden, AR on January 31,1942 to Daniel Wesley Maxwell and Mary Elizabeth (Halley) Maxwell. Dick graduated from Camden High School in 1961 where he was known by his friends as "Dickie" and was quite the track star. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1963-1967.  He worked 25 years for General Dynamics Corporation, then retired as an engineer from Aero Jet. Dick was an active member of Cullendale First Baptist Church in Camden before moving to Barling where He has been a member of Rye Hill Baptist Church. One of Dick's favorite pastimes was spending time at family-owned Buck Horn Deer Camp with family and friends in Junction City, AR.

Dick was preceded in death by his father and mother, as well as his brother David Alan Maxwell.  He is survived by his beautiful bride of 60 years, Joyce Ann (Laney) Maxwell, his daughters Marcy Lynn Maxwell and Molly Rebecca Maxwell, and his son Dr. James Richard Maxwell, Jr. and his wife Janna (Southerland) Maxwell.  Pop Pop is also survived by his dearly loved grandchildren Claire Grace Cabaness, Anna Elizabeth Cabaness, Thomas Joseph Lubecke, Kendall Layne (Maxwell) Martin, William Thomas Martin, and Gresham James Maxwell. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Bendette (Johnston) Maxwell, nieces Lisa (Maxwell) Henry and Andrea (Maxwell)Smith (Paul), his in-laws, David and Linda Laney, Dr. Jim and Linda Lee, and Sarah Laney along with his many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 5pm-7pm at Proctor Funeral Home, Camden. A Graveside service will be Friday, November 17,2023 1pm at Memorial Park Cemetary, Camden. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Cullendale First Baptist Church in Camden, AR or Rye Hill Baptist Church in Fort Smith, AR.  Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
