James Sherman
Brooks
Nov 9, 1951 — Mar 18, 2025
Camden
James Sherman Brooks (AKA Coach, Bubba, Pastor) passed away peacefully at his home in Camden, Arkansas, on March 18, 2025. He was born on November 9, 1951, to James Clark Brooks and Velma Josephine (LeMaster) Brooks. He graduated from Fayetteville High School and later received a B.S.E. degree from the University of Arkansas. After graduating college, he pursued his passion for coaching football. His career started at San Augustine, Texas but after a few years, he was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Fairview Cardinals in Camden, Arkansas. His love for the game surpassed only by his love for his players, developing a bond that continued even after they graduated.
He retired after 33 years of dedicated service in the Camden Fairview School District.
His retirement allowed him to spend more time with family, especially with his grandsons, Bryce and Logan. He also found more time to share his testimony which eventually led him to be the pastor at Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Camden. Sherman was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him. His journey on this earth was marked by his love of family, friends, and his unwavering faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Phil Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Brooks, daughter, Jessica Neely and husband, Matt, two grandsons, Logan and Bryce Neely, two sisters, Susie Stewart and Tish Boscia and husband, Bill, host of family and friends.
