Emily Ann Bowles Frost was born on June 4, 1979, in Little Rock, AR, to John and Kathryn Bowles. She passed away on August 22, 2022, at age 43 in Westwood, KS. Emily grew up in Camden, AR, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Camden Fairview High School, attended Arkansas Governor's School and hosted a solo vocal recital her senior year. She received a BA in Vocal Performance from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO, and was awarded the Letha Millsom Opera Award. In high school and college she performed in numerous choral ensembles, musicals, and operas, including lead performances and solos in "Candide," "South Pacific," and "Carmina Burana."  She most recently earned her Pre-K teaching certification through the Kansas City Teacher Residency Program of the Kauffman Education Foundation.

Emily is preceded in death by her father, John Robert Bowles, brother, Scott Braswell Bowles, maternal grandfather, Bernie Wilson Braswell, paternal grandparents, Thomas and Estelle Byler Bowles, and paternal uncle and aunt, Thomas David and Sharon Edwards Bowles.

Survivors include her daughter, Juliette Ann Frost, son, Vaughn Edward Frost, mother, Kathryn Braswell Bowles Adcock, stepfather, Frank Adcock, sister Caroline Bowles Bleckmann (David), maternal grandmother, Margie Pennington Braswell, maternal aunt and uncle, Brenda and Dr. Tom Burns, and nieces, Chloe Williams (Dylan), Sidney Rain Bowles, Anneke Bleckmann, nephew, Ben Bleckmann, great niece, Mia Williams, cousins, Lori Booth (Jarrod), Lisa Fuller (Don), Mary Lynn Patterson (Jeffrey), former husband Adrian Mead Frost (Rachel Kallevig), mother-in-law, Victoria Brewer, sisters in law, Carrie Hubbard and Traci Frost (Zach Sumney) and many beloved cousins and other relatives.

Emily was a loving mother who both bequeathed and nurtured her children's musical talents. Vaughn is a natural at the drum set she gave him, and Juliette is a gifted songwriter and singer. More than anything, Emily enjoyed attending her childrens' band and orchestra concerts. She not only encouraged their interest in the arts, she spent countless hours helping them pursue their dreams and goals as artists. In a photo taken just this summer, Emily is beaming proudly at Juliette during one of her first solo gigs.

Emily was an extremely talented vocalist. While she was well-known as a jazz singer/songwriter in Kansas City, some might be surprised to know that she was equally talented as a well-trained opera singer. Some of her most recent performances include being a guest vocalist at Jazz in the Roses at Loose Park in Kansas City, and her many appearances with the Emily Frost Trio. She was often accompanied by Bryan Hicks and Rod Fleeman. As a choral music teacher, Emily was passionate about helping her students both in the classroom and in life. She found joy in passing along her passion for music to the younger generation.

To quote a friend, Anna, "Emily had great rapport with children, singing with them and easily guiding them. She could tune right in as a healer, especially for kids who were dealing with difficult life circumstances. She worked hard to become a teacher. Her students this year will have missed out on experiencing her valuable intuition and leadership."

Emily's family will remember her for her joy, creative imagination, sense of humor, and unique ability to bring fun and excitement to every situation. Emily was very talented in the art of uplifting those around her. If the room was sad, she would find a way to get a laugh. If a friend was down, she would find a way to make them feel special. She was skilled at giving heartfelt compliments that would give people the confidence boost they needed to keep going. Her kindness was without bounds. Emily connected with people from all walks of life without prejudice or pretension. In 2006, she made professional connections with Tony Bennett's band and attended his 80th birthday party in NYC.

Emily loved her aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins. She very much admired her grandmothers and often quoted them. Always bringing the fun, Emily's enthusiasm for holidays made us all look forward to spending time with her and her family.

Emily was incredibly generous. She gave the most meaningful gifts, some of which didn't cost a penny, but she knew exactly what each individual in her life needed to feel set apart—to feel loved, to feel accepted—and she made sure to continually encourage and uplift them. She loved the outdoors and found joy and beauty in flowers. She created stunning flower arrangements and gave them away to neighbors, friends, family members, and sometimes even strangers on the street.

When Emily's children decided it was time for a pet, she helped them adopt Alix the Gecko. He knew her voice and paid attention when she walked near the glass wall of his cage. A succession of three cats, Luna, Max, and Milo made life interesting with Alix but she loved her cats and often searched for them when they didn't make their curfew.

Our family is especially grateful for Emily's numerous teachers, mentors, and friends, past and present.

As a family, we will miss her greatly. May her warm spirit burn brightly and may we live our lives to honor the love within her.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Camden, AR, on October 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm before the service in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Life is scheduled at Kansas City on October 23, 2022 at "Upside Bungee," 1101 Mulberry Street, KC, MO.
