Eleanor Joyce Richardson, age 87, passed away on May 17, 2025. She was born August 5, 1937, in Lester, Arkansas (Ouachita County) to W. D. Richardson and Lillian B. Smith Richardson.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Carolyn Richardson Gill; and niece Danita Carol Hollis Benson.
She is survived by great niece Stephanie Nicole Reilly (Chris) of Austin, AR; great nephew Jonathan Scott Benson of Boynton Beach, FL; great-great-niece Lauren Danita Reilly of Austin, AR, and her beloved Shih Tzu Caesar.
Eleanor graduated from Chidester High School in 1955 as valedictorian of her class. She graduated from Henderson State University in 1960 with a BSE Degree and graduated from Auburn University in 1968 with a MED Degree. She taught high school English for 45 years, 44 of which were at Dollarway High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She retired from Dollarway High School in 2004. In 2006, Eleanor was honored with having a new classroom building on the campus of Dollarway High School named after her and Maurice Horton, who had served as her high school principal and superintendent. The building is named the Horton Richardson Building. She enjoyed reading and traveling, eventually leading to her visiting over 24 countries. Even though she quit traveling abroad, she continued she continued to travel around the United States on mystery trips. After living in Pine Bluff, Arkansas for fifty-three years, in 2013 she moved to Camden, Arkansas where her parents had lived from 1957 until their deaths. Since moving to Camden, she became a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She found Camden to be a warm and friendly place to live.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Stonebridge Senior Living and Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
Visitation will be 9:00 AM at Proctor Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on May 23, 2025 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Camden, AR
