Edward Harris, Sr., 93, passed away on March 25, 2024 at his home in Camden, Arkansas. He was born on February 23, 1931 in Chidester, AR to Jessie and Rosa Anna Harris. Edward accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was Chairman of the Deacon Board and a faithful member of First Union Baptist Church.
Edward enlisted into the United States Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War in 1952. He served his country faithfully until he received an Honorable Discharge in 1954.
On April 19, 1954 he united in holy matrimony to Norma Jean Williams and to this union 10 children were born. They were married for over 52 years before his wife passed away.
Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family, church family, and friends. Edward had a servant's heart and was always there when needed. He was a leader, father, and legendary figure who will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Harris; his siblings, Viola, Nute, Jessie, and Freddie Harris; his grandchildren, Akaliah Tatum and MaKayla Butler; and a son-in-law, John Hunter.
He is survived by his 10 children, Linda Hunter (Lance), Shirley Lasker, Bonnie Persha (Clarence), Patricia Johnson (Robert), Endia Childs (Eddie), Brenda Prater (Fred), Edward Harris, Jr. (Gwen), Roberta Carter (Brodrick), Sharon Biddle (Terry), and Melinda Ingram (Kevin); 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Roosevelt Harris and Noah Harris; brother in-law, James Williams; sister in-laws, Carolyn Harris, Verna Mae Williams, and Ruthie Bazzelle; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024 from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Proctor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11:00AM Saturday, March 30, 2024 at First Union Baptist Church. The Eulogist will be Rev. Arlin Carson.
