Catherine Burton
Griffis
Apr 4, 1930 — Feb 10, 2025
Pine Bluff
Catherine was born on April 4,1930 in Donaldson, AR. She departed this life on February 10, 2025 in Pine Bluff, AR.
Her parents were Dock William and Ada Belle French Burton. Catherine had an incredible childhood as the 3rd of 6 children growing up in the Fairview community. On June 3, 1949, she married the love of her life, Herbert Richard "Bud" Griffis. With this union, she was blessed to inherit Bud's large Griffis family, who she never referred to as the Griffis family but rather "my Griffis family".
She and Bud were married over 61 years. Together they raised two very loved and protected children while still giving them wings to fly. They had 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild who were loved beyond measure.
Catherine was extremely talented. She loved to sew and enjoyed making drapes for family and friends. Needlework was very relaxing to her. She loved working with flowers and was devoted to her Garden Club. She was always so excited to win ribbons at the garden shows. Constantly, she was showing pictures of everyone else's arrangements. She loved them all. Painting and sketching were also a huge pastime for her. She gifted many of her paintings to family members.
For as long as health enabled them, they were devoted members of First Presbyterian Church, Camden. Catherine loved decorating the sanctuary and fellowship hall for every season and event. She spent untold hours with the other ladies of the church decorating and preparing meals.
Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Charles Richard "Rick" Griffis: her brothers, William Doyle Burton and Bobby Burton: her sisters, Ernestine Johnston and Marjorie Mullins.
She is survived by: her daughter Linda Nickerson (Charles), granddaughter Cheryl Ward (Noel Donald), grandsons Thomas (Sandra Honeysuckle) and Shane Griffis, and great granddaughter Emily Ward. Other very loved survivors include her sister Melba Bradshaw, her sisters by marriage Debbie "Daisy" Stinnett Burton, Carolyn Griffis Lindsay, Jimmy Faye "Dot" Griffis Steelman and Frances Beard Griffis. Can not leave out her cousins James Joseph "Joe" and Thomas G. "Tommy" Burton who she loved so very much. There are many, many nieces, nephews and friends who should be included in this. She loved each and everyone.
She will be greatly missed by all of us. As her daughter, I would like to say: "Thank you, Lord, for this precious lady you shared with us."
Family would like to extend a huge "Thank you" to the nurses and aids on JRMC 23NW and to Doctors Ede and Nick Willis. Until her last breath, she expressed appreciation and gratitude for each of you.
Memorial Service will be held Friday, Feb 14, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church, Camden, AR. Visitation will be at 1 PM and Memorial at 2PM.
