Obituary

Benny Alvis Steelman died January 20, 2024. He was born on February 18, 1943, to Oscar and Mary Bell Steelman. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Barbara Stone, Annette Johnson, Clifford Steelman, and Ricky Steelman. He was educated at Camden and Fairview schools. In 1961he was chosen as an All-State football player. Benny was also honorable mention All-AIC at Arkansas A&M College (now UAM). He taught six years at Fairview High School before becoming a roofing contractor for 40 years. He also bought, rented, and sold many properties. He loved hunting deer, elk, and wild hogs. In 1984 Benny was Take-Off Pounds Sensibly Club Arkansas King and won a trip to the national convention in Honolulu.

Benny is survived by his wife, Sonya Pelt Steelman; his children, Terry O. Steelman (Marie Cris) of Hot Springs; Cynthia Steelman Gallagher of Camden; grandchildren, Benny Gallagher (Caitlyn), Air Force 2nd Lt. Lyca Steelman, Adrian Steelman, DJ Gallagher, Garvey Gallagher, Cameron Gallagher, and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 26th from 4:00-7:00 P.M at Proctor Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 27th at 1:00 P.M. at Proctor Chapel with burial following at Lakeside Cemetery on Ouachita Rd 77 near Mustin Lake.
