Annie Mae McClain Pennington, 88, of Camden, Arkansas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 2, 2026. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family. She was born January 17, 1938, in Milo, Arkansas, to DA “Red” and Flora McClain. At eighteen, she married Levi Denton Pennington, and they shared 50 years of marriage until his passing in 2006. Together they made their home in Camden and raised three wonderful children.
Ann was a woman of deep faith and a faithful member of Cullendale Assembly of God. She loved Jesus, and it showed in the way she loved and cared for others: generously, fully, and without hesitation.
Her hands were never idle. If she wasn't cooking for her family, she was outside working in the yard or wiping blades in the shop. Her lifelong nemesis was the evil pinecones that fell across that yard. She never stopped picking them up, and they never stopped falling.
Her kitchen was the heart of the home, and holidays at her table were true feasts, with at least one favorite dish waiting for every person who came through her door. To her grandchildren she was Grandma, to her great-grandchildren she was Granny, and to all who knew her she was a blessing.
She is now worshipping at the feet of Jesus with those who went before her: her husband, Levi Pennington; her parents, DA “Red” and Flora McClain; her brother, J.D. McClain; her sister, Maggie McClain; and granddaughter Taylor Watkins.
She is survived by her children, Ray Pennington (Amy) of Camden, Mark Pennington (Kimberly) of Camden, and Neisa Watkins (Shawn) of Thornton; her grandchildren, Season Pennington of Bentonville, David Pennington of Austin, Texas, Commander Madison Pennington, United States Navy, of Oak Harbor, Washington, Zachary Pennington of Camden, Danielle McCarter (Justin) of Russellville, Trey Hopkins (Ellen) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brandi Endsley (Jonathan) of Camden, Madison Montez (Johnnie) of Bearden, Private First Class Oshey Yarbrough, United States Army, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, of Tacoma Washington, and Lino Watkins of Bearden; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends who loved her dearly.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Cullendale Assembly of God, with services at 2:00 pm, led by Brother Alan Womack. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Camden.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day.”
