Obituary

In Loving Memory of Anna Lu Bates

Ms. Anna Bates peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, September 4, 2026. Born on December 3, 1942, she was blessed with 83 years of life, during which she shared love, kindness, and joy with all who knew her. Above all else, Anna Lu dedicated her life to caring for her family, friends, and community.

Anna Lu was a giving and selfless woman who worked tirelessly to ensure that her family had everything they needed. She faced life's challenges with remarkable strength, grace, and courage. Through every season of life, she remained steadfast in her faith and commitment to those she loved.

At an early age, Anna Lu became an active member of New Haven Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in many capacities throughout the years. She sang in the choir, served as a Youth Director, was a dedicated member of the Usher Board, a devoted Prayer Warrior, and an active member of the Women's Missionary Society (WMS). Her love for the Lord and commitment to serving others were evident in all she did.

Throughout her life, Anna Lu worked in the medical field for many years and later became the owner of an in-home daycare. She also opened her heart and home as a foster parent, providing care and support to countless children. She understood the value of hard work and was instilled with that same work ethic in those she loved. As a woman of unwavering faith, she taught the importance of family, integrity, perseverance, and doing what is right.

Anna Lu will be remembered as a caring and compassionate woman who consistently placed the needs of others before her own. She was a trusted friend, a loving mother and grandmother, and a source of wisdom and encouragement to many. Though she is now at peace, her legacy of love, faith, and service will live forever in our hearts. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Anna Lu was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marvin Stith; her parents, Vester and Thereatha Kennedy; and her siblings, Essie Pace, Lillie B. Whitney, and George "Buster" Kennedy.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her children, James E. Stith, Sandra D. Stith Johnson (Lee Johnson), and Jeffrey Stith (Sandra Stith); 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Well done, thy good and faithful servant. Your love, wisdom, and faith will continue to guide us. We love you and will carry your memories in our hearts forever.

A visitation will be held from 5:00PM to 8:00PM Friday, September 11, 2026 at Proctor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00PM Saturday, September 12, 2026 at New Haven Baptist Church, 336 Stewart Street, Camden, AR 71701. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery.
