Obituary

Alice Marguerite Bettis Harris, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully from earth to heaven on May 22nd 2024 in Camden. Marguerite was born June 3, 1926 in Donaldson, Arkansas to Lawrence Lafayette and Pearly Bailey Bettis. She grew up in Brown Springs, Arkansas and graduated from Sparkman High School, married Monroe Harris after WWII and moved to Camden. She and Monroe attended South Street Baptist Church and later Immanuel Baptist Church as long as health allowed and raised their children in the Fairview community.  Preceding her in death were husband Monroe Harris, sons Jimmy and Roger Harris, and granddaughter Kerry Harris Murphree and Kerry's husband Justin. She is survived by son Tommy and wife Teresa Harris, daughters-in-law, Stefanie Harris Childers and Stacy Harris, and grandchildren, Ty Harris (wife Beth), Jamie Harris Allen (husband Chris), Kirsten Harris, and Cole Harris, and great granddaughter Rachel Murphree.

Marguerite's faith in God, and her church and family were the focus of her life. Known as Mamaw to her grandchildren, they always knew there would be something good to eat when they visited. She was an excellent cook and her lemon ice-box pie was legendary. She especially loved family reunions held at Lake DeGray and her Sparkman High School reunion. Her family was blessed to have known their mother, grandmother and great grandmother for so long and she will be greatly missed. She is now at peace, and reunited with all her family and friends that preceded her and in the presence of God.

Thanks go to the staff at Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation, Dr. Crump, and OCMC Hospice for the excellent care she received. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the New Holly Springs Cemetery, Attn: Phyllis Ramsey, 7 Dallas 260, Sparkman, Arkansas 71763.

A graveside service will be Friday, May 24th at 10 am at the New Holly Springs Cemetery in Holly Springs, Arkansas. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
